Myll is Swedish musician Edvin Lindström. The album 'Bland siffror och troll i en bil utan blinkers' (Translation: Among Numbers and Trolls in a Car Without Blinkers) is a refined mix of recording styles, musical inspiration and instrumentation. 'Bland siffror...' is a combination of opposites: analog and digital, acoustic and synth, complicated and simplistic, hi-fi and lo-fi. The album is as eclectic as it is a cohesive unit. In Edvin's own words, "This album is pretty much an uncensored showcase of everything I love about making music". These words ring true as his outpouring of ideas and his love of making music absolutely shine through here. From the joy of 'Väder och vind (Translation: Weather and Wind)', to the catchy pop of '35 mm', and the epic instrumental 'The Flash', Myll may have stumbled upon creating the best Spring album in recent memory. Rejoice!

Jeffrey Letterly is an inter-disciplinary artist living in central New York State. He thrives on recording the world and can sometimes capture a moment you have never heard before. The Melting is a conglomeration of forty organic elements (sometimes electronically altered) that melt away. A Robot Dreams Of Playing The Harp meditates on a dominant seventh chord, obviously the favourite chord of robots. These pieces come from a collection of shorter moments which are in opposition to, or related to, his radio show for Redhouse Art Radio, Anenome Of Sound .

St Jambience is let out of the house at weekends. He heads to suburban beer barns and shreds over 80s cover songs. He's locked up for the rest of the week. So the music that pours forth is isolated and has a sense of paranoia being organised into controllable blocks. The detritus of links to the outside world - radio static, guitar tone quotation - seep in as dreams, both good and bad, seep out. These two tracks are just a small peek through the curtain into the vast soundworlds created by St Jambience to make sense of his own duplicit existence.

'The Quest For Love Aboard The Belafonte' is lead single from the album 'Love On The Second Stair'. It features the original version and three remixes. Actual Russian Brides push the track through abstract 8-bits and bouncing sub-bass. Karoshi redresses the song in his own lush chord arrangements and down-tempo groove. Telafonica recast their own track as a dark triptych with vocal cutups, abrasive grooves and bit-crushed melancholy.

Craven Canary normally floats around cyberspace finding music she likes, then records herself singing duets with what she downloads. This time, she decided to reverse the process - and so placed a recording of her lone voice singing a simple melody for others to download and make up the accompaniment. These are two of the results. The first is a glitched up scramble of the accapella, where Lessons In Time used only the sounds from Craven Canary's recording, then chopped and processed them into an abstract folk deconstruction. Telafonica dressed the voice in a dark, atmospheric, airless house groove for a collision of musical impulses.

Inspired
by Steve Reich's late 60's tape works, "Come Out", and "It's Gonna'
Rain", I wondered what Reich might have done if he had access to modern
technology at the time. I had also been thinking about constructing
something abstract from the sounds of old fairground organs, whirrs,
clicks and occasionally strange tuning included. So, I digitised a
bunch of recordings of fairground organs and other musical automata,
then set about arranging each recording in layers up to 10,000 deep,
coming up with three basic patterns (A, B and C) which I felt teased
out interesting aspects of the original sound.
The end effect of this in some of these pieces, is that the
listener is able to hear every moment of a recording at once. After a
few days of this, working feverishly but not stopping to listen to the
results, I realised I had made a couple of mistakes right at the at the
start in how I had arranged the patterns. In a way my modern technology
was mimicing the imperfections of the original instruments, so I left
the "mistakes" intact.

Another stylistic sidestep - this time into the realms of guitar pop

as 4-4-2 Music extends it's range to try and cover all the things we
really love. Bubblejuggler chimes in this month with two tracks
of vaguely twisted guitar based pop. Guitar amps hum and buzz, lo-fi
noises try to sound hi-fi, hi-fi sounds try to be lo-fi. 'Picasso's
Girl At Her Mirror' does mid-era Flaming Lips crashing into britpop
through the shards of a Picasso masterpiece. 'Something About Shadows'
plays dark against light as the acoustic guitars fight the electronic
bleeps to be heard over the din of drums.

A departure from the usual electronic leanings, as 4-4-2 Music
begins
to truly branch out, and we are proud to present these 2 tracks of
improvised zither tones. The tracks relate to mourning, the Alps,
romanticism, Webern...
Death III is made playing what are known
as an elegie concert zither and a prime concert zither simultaneously.
Concert zithers are also know as Alpine zithers; they're difficult,
have a fingerboard with frets on one side. The elegie is a bit longer;
the one in this recording is from around 1860 and was made by a
relatively well-known German violin maker. The prime is probably from
around 1900-1920. Both needed repairs. Death V is made playing the
elegie alone.
The processing done on the tracks has been hiss
removal (which also change timbre), echo, some hard limiting. The
pieces, taken from a larger suite of 5 tracks, were played in order,
and composed on the spot; there was only one take for each, which is
Sondheim's usual way of proceeding; it emphasizes the exploratory
nature of music, as well as its relation to labour and the body.

interpreted the album title in their own way in order to produce tracks
for the compilation. From the minimal techno of Andy Rantzen (of
Itch-e & Scratch-e fame) to the deep house of Audio
Cephlon and Telafonica, the glitch house of Luke Collision to the
late night glitch hop of the White Trash Trailer Park, the abstract pop
of Bubblejuggler, The Other One Dave and The Plastik Scene to Dsico's
mashup and the out and out strangeness of The Jason Folder Decapitation
Project. It all hangs together wonderfully, exploring the nether
regions of melody in the 21st century.
