soon after recording songs for their first demo in 2000, telafonica sent a copy to paris and georgie at groovescooter records.  they generously invited telafonica around to their house, sat with them, discussed music and were all 'round nice people.  a few years later, they asked telafonica to contribute a remix to a remix project for one of their artists, don meers, and his album, train noise.

telafonica was comissioned to work on the track 'the french quarter'.  the original album evoked moods of exotic places.  one evening, adrian was sitting waiting for  some indian takeaway when the rhythm of the track playing struck him as great.  it featured a kick just before the one-beat and a snare on the one-beat.  there were no other 'driving' sounds in the rhythm in the traditional western sense, but lots of small percussive sounds kept the track moving.

being the bower birds they are, telafonica took the idea and worked it into the remix,  adding some spanish flamenco claps and guitar (the gypsies, flamenco's creators, originated in india during the middle ages and have worked their way across europe - a distinct indian flavour can be heard in most european 'folk' musics, which often originated with the different gypsy clans).  they had been given don's original samples to work with as well, but one which was missing was the lead saxophone.  when telafonica requested if they could possibly have the audio of it, they learned that don's hard drive had crashed and he no longer had it!  so, the guitar was brought out and the break, copied note for note, played on it.

the entire remix album is an excellent example of remixes which extend the originals, combined with a few new tracks, but which all hang together beautifully, working as an album.
